Transcom's top 3 officials get bail in four cases


A Dhaka Court on Wednesday granted bail to Transcom Group's Chairman Shahnaz Rahman, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simeen Rahman, and Head of Transformation Zaraif Ayaat Hossain in four cases.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, Mahbub Ahmed, passed the order after hearing on their bail petitions.
Lawyer Siddique Ullah Miah who appeared in the court hearing representing Transcom's officials confirmed the matter.
The lawyer further said his clients have been granted bail till submission of the police report in the cases.
The Transcom officials were abroad during the filing of these cases. They filed writ petitions seeking High Court directives so that they can return home smoothly and participate in legal proceedings without any hindrance.
Following their petitions, the different benches of the High Court asked the law enforcing agencies not to arrest and not to harass them till 72 hours of their return to the country, according to the lawyers concerned.
However, Transcom officials were also asked to surrender in a competent court within 72 hours after their return.
Lawyer Siddique Ullah Miah said Transcom officials returned country at 9.00 am on Wednesday and soon after that they moved the court for surrender in the cases.
After surrendering in the court Transcom officials also sought bail in the cases. Upon hearing on their petitions, the court granted them bail till submission of the police report.
Shahzreh Huq, younger daughter of the late Chairman of the group, filed the cases with Gulshan Police Station.
On February 22, Shahzreh filed three cases with the police station on charges of fraud and breach of trust regarding the company's shares and properties. In the three cases, eight top officials, including the Chairman and CEO of Transcom Group, were accused.
Later on March 22 this year, a murder case was filed against 11 people including Transcom's CEO and Head of Transformation Zaraif Ayaat Hossain. According to the complaint, her elder brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman, who died nine months ago, was murdered.
Top three Transcom officials get bail on Wednesday in these four cases. The other accused including five who arrested by law enforcers secured bail earlier in the cases. Lawyers Abdur Rahman Howlader, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Mazhar Islam and others also took part in the court proceedings on behalf of Transcom Group officials.
