Transport owners, workers warn errant vehicles of action

Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Parishad, a platform of transport owners and workers, again sounded a warning against public buses operating on contract basis and without valid documents and qualified drivers.
The Parishad also threatened to seize vehicles still running on the city roads on contract basis and without route permits, fitness certificates and genuine driving licences.
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, convenor of the Parishad, gave the warning after its meeting at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the city on Wednesday.
He also expressed deep shock at the death of a student in the Tuesday's road accident caused by reckless driving.
Though the Parishad convened the meeting to announce a new committee, it focused on the students' agitation and regretted that such accidents are taking place repeatedly.
Leaders of different terminal-based organisations also expressed deep shock at the death of a student in the road accident.
The meeting announced that the bus service of 'Suprovat' and 'Jabel-e Noor Paribahan', responsible for the accidents in August of last year and on Tuesday last, will remain halted.
Referring to earlier decisions-contract-basis buses will no longer ply city streets and under-aged drivers won't be recruited-Khandaker Enayer Ullah called upon the owners and workers to take a vow to comply with the decisions.
He said that after the August 1 accident, several drives were conducted on behalf of the transport owners' association to implement the decisions.
"But we have found that many (individual bus owners and company) are not obeying the decisions even after we have given notices and directions to them," he added.
In case of violations of the instructions, Mr Enayet said the central committee of the Parishad will take control of the errant vehicles.
