Travel ban issued for Enamul

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Customs, Excise and VAT Commissioner Moham-mad Enamul Haque amid widespread corruption allegations.

Dhaka Sessions Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain issued the order on Monday following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On July 4, ACC Deputy Director Farzana Yasmin, investigating officer of the case, filed an application to attach Enamul's assets to facilitate the probe into the corruption allegation.

The ACC's application cited Section 27(1) of the ACC Act 2004, accusing Enamul of acquiring assets worth Tk 97.69 million through bribery and corruption.

According to sources related to the ACC and the court, the ACC filed a case against Customs Commissioner Moham-mad Enamul Haque on July 31 last year for allegedly acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 97.6 million.

Enamul owns huge properties in Dhaka, including land in Gulshan, Khilkhet, Badda and Gazipur, according to the court order.

Additionally, he possesses commercial spaces and multiple flats with parking facilities in Badda, Kakrail, Gulshan and Mohammadpur areas of the capital, it stated.

On July 4, the same court ordered the seizure of a nine-storey house and two flats and three commercial spaces owned by Enamul, in the capital.

A petition was filed to attach the nine-storey house in Block G of Bashundhara residential area, two flats in the capital's Banani and Kakrail, three commercial spaces in Mohammadpur and other areas in Dhaka and a car parking space in Gulshan.

Additionally, the court has ordered the seizure of Enamul's land in Gazipur and Badda.

The seized properties include three kathas of land in Joar Sahara, Gulshan, valued at Tk 61,000 (as per the deed), 33 decimals of land in Khilkhet valued at Tk 7, 84,000, a 1,170 square feet flat including common space in Irish Nurjahan Tower, Kakrail, valued at Tk 2.83 million, and a 1,835 square feet flat including car parking space in the same building valued at over Tk 5.12 million.

Additionally, there are flats of 1,900 square feet and 3,800 square feet in Kakrail, including car parking, valued at over Tk 20.85 million, five kathas of land in Gazipur valued at more than Tk 6.24 million and three commercial spaces of 4,000 square feet each in Mohammadpur, each valued at more than Tk 7.13 million

Moreover, there is a 10,965 square feet space in Mohammadpur valued at over Tk 23.59 million. There is also a 2,428sf flat in Gulshan valued at over Tk 7.2 million and four kathas of low land in Badda valued at over Tk 1.45 million.
