Tuba Group authorities have failed to submit a detailed report on the dues of workers of their closed five factories within the stipulated timeframe and sought more time in this connection, sources said.
On the other hand, labour leaders have prepared the details of the dues from their part and submitted the same to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The labour leaders, however, alleged that the Tuba authorities are dillydallying in preparing the details.
The government in a meeting held on August 26, gave the Tuba Group authorities a four-day time to submit a detailed report on the workers' dues including service benefits.
Later, in another meeting held last week with the labour state minister, Tuba Group Managing Director Delwar Hossain sought another four days' time in this connection.
President of Sammilito Garment Sramik Federation Nazma Akter said, "We have submitted our report to the BGMEA but the Tuba authorities are dillydallying in preparing their details."
"We have calculated the dues in two ways," she said.
According to the article 20 of the existing law of the land, the dues of 1,306 workers of five Tuba Group factories stand at Tk 38.37 million (Tk 3.83 crore), she said adding that one month's basic pay and the duration of workers' job have been calculated as per the article.
The workers' dues stand at Tk 54.98 million, according to the article 26 of the labour law, she added further.
About 1,456 workers had received three months' wages from the BGMEA.
Ms Nazma said her organisation has details of 1,306 workers that include workers who worked for one year to 10 years.
Disagreeing with the details prepared by the labour rights group, Mr Delwar said they need more time to prepare the details as they are considering many issues.
"We sought further four days' time and hope to submit the details by Thursday next," he added.
"I cannot pay any single penny unless I get the insurance money," he added.
When communicated, State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu said, "There is no alternative to paying all the dues including service benefits of the five closed Tuba Group factory workers."
If the Tuba authorities fail to run their units, they have to declare those closed according to the law of the land and pay the workers accordingly, he reiterated.
"Otherwise, the government will take legal action against the Tuba authorities," he warned.
On August 20, the Tuba Group authorities had declared their five units closed for an indefinite period under the article 13(1) of the labour law with effect from June 11 last.
However, the government found that closure of the five units under the article of the labour law that the Tuba Group authorities followed in doing so was 'not proper'.
The five closed factories are Tuba Fashion Limited, Tuba Textile Mills Limited, Mita Designs Limited, Taif Designs Limited and Bughshan Garments (Pvt) Ltd.
Earlier, around 1,600 workers of Tuba Group observed hunger strike for 11 days since July 28 to realise their due wages for the three months and festival allowances.
Later the workers were paid three months' wages and overtime bills on August 6, 7 and 10.
