Two killed in clash over land dispute in M’singh

MYMENSINGH, May 22 (BSS):  Two persons were killed and three others injured in a clash over land dispute at Sheuly village under Pagla Police Station in Gafargaon upazila of the district Friday morning.
One was killed on the spot and another one, his cousin, succumbed to his injuries. The victims were identified as Abdul Samad Khan(55), son of Abdul Gani Khan and his cousin Abul Kalam Azad Khan(54), son of late Rustom Ali Khan of Sheuly village.
There had been a longstanding dispute over a piece of land between Samad Khan and his neighbour Liakat Mir, a retired police constable.
The dispute arose when an initiative was taken to construct a road to a local mosque, said Badrul Alam Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station in Gafargaon.
Khan group repeatedly pursued and several local arbitrations were held to get the land but Mir Group never agreed, the OC said.
When Samad Khan and his followers went to the spot an altercation took place between the two groups and at one stage, a group allegedly led by Liakat Mir swooped on Khan Group with sharp weapons, killing Samad Khan on the spot and injuring four others at about 11.00 am, the OC informed.Of the injured, Abul Kalam Azad Khan, Taslim Khan 28, Khairul Islam Khan 35, were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where Azad Khan succumbed to his injuries.Mosharraf Khan was also injured in the incident and was given first aid.

Receiving information a police team led by OC rushed to the spot and arrested the main accused Liakat Mir, 50, and his son Sajal Mir ,28, while they were trying to escape from the village, police said.
