Two killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’ with cops

RAJBARI, Sept 4 (UNB): Two suspected criminals were killed in a 'gunfight' between their cohorts and police at East Patra in Pangsha upazila early on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Omar Kha, 35, a ringleader of an inter-district robber gang and accused in the case for killing of Mizan, former officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station, and Kamal Hossain, 40, an alleged member of a robber gang and also a suspected outlaw.

On a tip-off, a team of Pangsha Thana police conducted a drive in the area to arrest the criminals around 3:15 am, said Hasina Begum, sub-inspector of Pangsha Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the police, triggering a gunfight. Omar Kha and Kamal Hossain were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee, said the SI.

Five policemen including the officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station Abu Shama Iqbal Hayat were injured during the gunfight.

Both the criminals were wanted in several cases, said the SI. Police also recovered two shutter guns, one gun, five cartridges and six shells of bullets from the spot.
