A businessman and a security guard were critically injured as miscreants shot them for toll in the city's Kafrul and Pallabi areas Saturday morning. The injured were identified as Aftabuddin (50), a businessman, and Sankar Roy, a security guard. Witnesses said, two miscreants came to the under-construction building of Aftabuddin in South Kafrul area at about 11:30 am by a motorcycle, and demanded Tk 0.1 million (1.0 lakh) from him. "As he refused to comply, they shot him, leaving him critically injured," said an account of the incident. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). In the other incident, bandits numbering two went to Snow Tex Apparels Ltd in Mirpur-7 area under Pallabi police station at about 7:00 am. Earlier, they had demanded toll from the owners of the garment factory. "As the extortionists failed to realise the money, they attacked and sprayed bullets targeting the security guard," a factory source said. They soon fled the scene without facing any obstruction. Sankar sustained bullet injuries in his leg, and was rushed to DMCH. — UNB
