Tying Faiaz's hands with rope against law

The government has acknowledged to the High Court that using rope to tie the hands of minor Hasnatul Islam Faiaz when bringing him to court in the case of a policeman's murder was a violation of the Children Act.
The government made the statement during a hearing of a writ petition on the matter by the bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice SM Maniruzzaman on Monday.
The court then dismissed the petition.
Additional Attorney General SM Munir, representing the government, said that Faiyaz's remand had been revoked and he had been transferred to the Child Development Centre.
Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation challenging the legality of placing a 17-year-old boy on a seven-day remand in connection with the killing of a police constable during the quota reform movement violence in Dhaka's Jatrabari area on July 19. The High Court rejected the writ petition, deeming it unnecessary since Faiyaz's remand had already been cancelled.
Shahdeen Malik and Md Monjur Alam submitted the petition, while Additional Attorney Generals S M Munir and Sk Md Morshed represented the government during the proceedings.
A juvenile court in Dhaka subsequently revoked the seven-day remand order for Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz, recognizing him as a juvenile. Following the cancellation of his remand, Faiyaz was transferred to the Child Correctional Centre in Tongi, Gazipur.
