UNDP regional director visits BD May 17-21

UN assistant secretary general and UNDP regional director Haoliang Xu will visit Bangladesh on May 17-21, a press release said Tuesday.
During the five-day visit he will observe the success of UNDP's various initiatives to reduce urban poverty, disaster management work in Dakope, Khulna, community-led climate change adaptation work in Hatia, and health education initiatives in Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
Mr Xu will also have dialogues with senior ministers and key dignitaries to discuss wide-ranging issues, like - economic growth, importance of innovation and the country's resilience.
He joined UNDP in 1995, and has worked in the Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe and the CIS regions respectively. He has worked in UNDP New York headquarters, Iran, Timor Leste, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
Before taking the current position, he was UNDP resident representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, and deputy regional director for Europe and CIS in New York.
