United Forum sweeps CCCI election

CHATTOGRAM, May 23: Election of the board of directors of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the oldest trade body of the country, was held for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 terms on Saturday.

The United Business Forum, led by Seacom Group Managing Director Mohammad Amirul Haque, secured a clean sweep in the biennial election of the CCCI, winning all 24 director posts.

The election marked return of direct voting in the chamber after more than a decade. Since 2013, all chamber committees had been formed without elections.

According to election officials, out of 6,780 eligible voters, 2,725 cast their ballots, recording a turnout of around 40 per cent.

The results were announced by Director of the Local Government Department in Chattogram and Chairman of the Election Board Monowara Begum after voting held from 9 am to 4 pm. A total of 12 persons were elected from the Ordinary Group and 6 persons from the Associate Group through direct voting. In addition, three persons were elected from the Trade Group and three from the Town Association uncontested.

The 12 directors elected from the "Ordinary Group" are Kamal Mostafa  Chowdhury of Raja Corporation (1405 votes), A. S. M. Ismail Khan of Falguni Traders Ltd. (1374), Abu Haider Chowdhury of Chumki Apparels Ltd. (1364), Md. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury of Rising Computer Scale (1352), Md. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury of Eastern Apparels Ltd. (1321), Asad Iftekhar of Turning Point (1306), Aman Ullah Al Chagir of Stevedore Friends Syndicate Ltd. (1277), Md. Golam Sarwar of Prantik Marine Services Ltd. (1259), Mohammad Habibur Rahman (1259) of The Four Wheelers, Mohammad Shafiul Alam (1249) of New Karnaphuli Trading, Mohammad Shahidul Islam Chowdhury (1211) of JSN Enterprises Ltd and Shahidul Alam (1209) of Standard Logistics Services.

The six directors elected from the "Associate Group" are Md. Zahidul Hasan of Jar Trade (votes received 687), Md. Nurul Islam of Swadesh Chemical Industries (Unit-2) (661), Md. Selim Noor of Geco Enterprise (646), Sarwar Alam Khan of Sahir Trade (641), Mohammad Mashiul Alam of Monowara Trading (632) and Mohammad Alauddin Al Azad of Mars Maritime Services and Inspection (618).

The three directors elected unopposed from the "Trade Group" are Mohammad Amirul Haque of Roknoor Corporation, Mohammad Akhtar Parvez of PHP Motors Ltd. and S. M. Saiful Alam of Chittagong Trade Agency.

The three directors elected unopposed from the "Town Association" are Afsar Hasan Chowdhury of Public Electric, Mohammad Monir Uddin of M. Enterprise and Mohammad Sajjad Un Nawaz of Orchid Trading.
