Universities to conduct direct, online exams

Students will be vaccinated soon

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed the country's public and private universities to hold direct and online examinations during the pandemic amid calls for reopen campuses and in-person education.

The students will be vaccinated soon on priority basis in order to reopen student residential halls, said a latest decision of the regulatory body on Tuesday.

"Subject to the conditions, all public and private universities in the country have been allowed to conduct examinations directly and through online. However, the examinations should be taken and evaluated on the advice of the academic council of the universities," UGC read in a statement.

The decision was taken at a view exchange meeting of the Ministry of Education, UGC and the Vice-Chancellors of the public universities in presence of Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni on Monday.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, UGC Chairman Prof.Dr. Kazi Shahidullah also spoke at the meeting.

Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Vice Chancellors of Public Universities, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, President and Secretary General of the Bangladesh University Teachers Association Federation, President of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, Secretary of the Ministry of Education and UGC were also present.
