Bangladesh has scopes for easing electricity crisis, especially in remote areas, by ramping up use of renewable energy, said Otto Gomm, programme coordinator of German funded Sustainable Energy for Development, GTZ.
He said the country's use of renewable energy is very low compared to many developed countries in the world.
Gomm was speaking at a luncheon meeting organised by Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) at Bay's Galleria in the city Thursday.
Peter Lartz, consul of visa and law of the German Embassy in Bangladesh was the guest speaker on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Peter Lartz said Germany will introduce new visa system soon to ensure that more Bangladeshi people can get German visa easily.
A high-powered business delegation of the BGCCI will go to Germany in August to explore the bilateral trade potentials between the two countries, said the chamber president, Saiful Islam.
The BGCCI hailed its president for winning the Best Business Person of the year of The Daily Star-DHL Bangladesh Business Award-2009.
Bangladesh has very good potentiality for boosting the bilateral trade between the two countries as Germany is one of the Bangladesh's biggest export destinations in Europe.
In 2009, Bangladesh exported goods worth 2.0 billion euro to Germany and imported goods worth 300 million euro from that country.
The annual export growth to Germany from Bangladesh is 15 percent and the import growth from Germany is 10 percent, he added.
Islam asked the local businessmen get in touch with the BGCCI for any kind of cooperation for participating in upcoming single country fair of Bangladesh in Germany.
