FE Report
The sudden change in the weather conditions triggered by cyclonic storm 'SIDR' created Friday good business prospects for the warm clothes peddlers in the city.
On Friday, street vendors were seen selling old and new warm clothes at the city's Motijheel, Purana Paltan, Gulistan and other important crossings in the city.
"Normally, the peddlers do not sit in the crossings to sell clothes on Friday. But, the traders started selling the clothes even on Friday with weather conditions turning slightly chilly under the influence of the cyclone storm," said a trader at the city's Motijheel.
The roadside vendors and hawkers were allowed to do trading on pavements again a few months ago after a brief eviction by the incumbent government.
The Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) has closed down the holiday markets following the rehabilitation of hawkers.
Exploiting the situation, the traders were asking more than usual prices from the customers.
The same situation was also noticed at Bangba Bazar, one of the largest wholesale are retail markets of clothes in Dhaka city.
The Met official said on Friday the maximum temperature in Dhaka was 23.3 degree and minimum was 18 degree.
"Normally the maximum temperature in the city varies between 30-31 degrees and minimum 21-20 degree during this time of the year," said a senior Met official Friday.
