A court in Dhaka is set to announce its verdict today (Monday) in a case involving 17 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and niece Tulip Siddique.
The case revolves around irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project, reports BSS.
Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 had scheduled December 1 for the verdict after both the prosecution and defense completed their arguments on November 25.
"The court will announce its verdict tomorrow, and we hope the accused will receive the maximum punishment. We have successfully substantiated the allegations against them," stated Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) public prosecutor Mir Ahammed Salam.
On November 23, the court had set November 25 for the final arguments. During that session, the defense counsel for one of the accused, Khurshid Alam, entered a not guilty plea. The remaining 16 accused are currently at large and were tried in absentia.
The trial's testimony phase concluded on November 18, with the investigation officer (IO) and ACC assistant director Afnan Jannat Keya completing her deposition. A total of 32 prosecution witnesses testified in the case.
