Apprehending vote fraud in the 2nd phase of upazila elections, BNP warned on Wednesday that they will stage strong demonstrations across the country in case of any polls manipulation, reports UNB.
"The BNP candidates, leaders and activists are being attacked, harassed, and implicated in false cases over the upazila election. There'll be massive demonstrations across the country with processions if the Election Commission fails to ensure fair election on Thursday," BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on the day.
The BNP leader came up with the threat at a press briefing at party's Nayapaltan central office. He asked the party men to make a list of those election officials involved in election irregularities and manipulation.
Criticising the Awami League (AL) leaders for making comments in parliament involving BNP in the snatching of three JMB militants, he said the ruling party leaders are crying foul and making unguarded remarks to hide their involvement in the incident.
Rizvi described the militants' snatching incident a well-orchestrated one, and said, "The government has killed one of the snatched militants in crossfire after recapturing him…this is very mysterious, now they're blaming others for the incident before carrying out any investigation. This proves that they themselves were involved in the incident."
Accusing the AL of being directly or indirectly involved in expansion of malignancy in Bangladesh, he said but it is BNP which checked militancy, captured the militant kingpins and punished them.
Sought comment about the cabinet expansion, Rizvi said, "This is an illegal cabinet…BNP has nothing to say about it."
