Voter listing in the capital, the most arduous job for the Election Commission (EC) in the nationwide task, will get off on November 20 with hosts of enumerators beginning to knock the doors for voters' particulars, reports UNB.
The enumerators would collect the data through door-to- door visit until November 28, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda told Dhaka City Corporation ward commissioners at a view-exchange meeting held at Nagar Bhaban in the city Sunday.
The technical part-data entry and taking photograph as well as finger print-of the voter-listing task would be conducted from December 01 to January 31.
CEC Huda expected that the entire task of voter listing in the DCC area would be completed by next March.
At the meeting, presided over by DCC Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, the ward commissioners were apprised of their duties to be performed during the preparation of voter list while the EC also got feedback regarding possible difficulties.
Besides, the CEC described the process of enrolling all people eligible to be voter, including the floating population, slum-dwellers and those admitted in hospitals, across the city.
"Those who are interested to be voter at workplace could be enlisted straightway, but one would have to contact the registration officer concerned if one wants to be voter at permanent address," he told the meeting.
The CEC urged the people to get enlisted as voter at only one place - either at workplace, residence or birthplace.
"Duplication can be identified during final matching. Anyone found enlisted as voter in more than one place intentionally would be punished with one year rigorous imprisonment," he forewarned.
Election Commissioners M Sohul Hussain and M Sakhawat Hussain and defense secretary Maj. Gen. Shafiqul Islam, among others, attended the meeting.
