We need accurate, reliable statistics

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said Wednesday accurate and reliable statistics is very important for economic planning.

"We need accurate and reliable statistics for proper planning," the planning minister said while exchanging views with the high officials of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in the city.

He said, "I know the importance of statistics as I had used much while working at the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance."

"Earlier, I was teammate, now I am your family mate. So I want a more activities on statistics," Mr. Kamal added.

The planning minister asked the BBS officials to work independently so that proper planning could be made to spur economic growth.

This is the first visit by the minister after taking over charge of the Ministry of Planning.

Statistics and informatics division secretary Md Nojibur Rahman presided over the meeting.

Ministry of Planning secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam, Planning Commission members Hedayet Ullah Al Mamun, Uzzal Bikash Dutt, Dr Shamsul Alam and BBS director general Golam Mostafa Kamal were present during the programme.
