Writ challenges legality of Shahabuddin's oath as President

A writ petition has been filed before the High Court (HC) challenging the legality of Mohammed Shahabuddin taking the oath of office as President of Bangladesh, citing concerns over his alleged dual citizenship.
The petition also seeks a directive from the High Court to initiate an investigation into President Shahabuddin, along with ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over his alleged "silent role" during the July-August 2024 uprising.
Barrister Shahriar Kabir, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, filed the writ petition on Monday.
According to sources, a division bench of the High Court may take up the matter for hearing on Tuesday.
Earlier, on February 26 this year, the lawyer had served a legal notice calling for the removal of President Shahabuddin from office.
