A public interest litigation (PIL) writ was filed with the High Court (HC) Sunday seeking a directive refraining the government from continuing negotiations with the International Monitory Fund (IMF) for signing a Policy Support Instrument (PSI) agreement, reports UNB.
The PIL writ also sought a directive to restrain the government from signing an agreement with the IMF engaging private company to operate the New Mooring Container Terminal in Chittagong Port.
The PIL writ, filed by M Mesbahul Islam, an advocate of the High Court, is likely to come up for hearing today (Monday), court sources said.
The petitioner submitted that the present caretaker government has no right to act beyond the ambit of the constitution, as article 58D of the constitution puts a bar on the interim government to take any policy decision.
"It shall carry on the routine functions with the assistance of persons in the service of the Republic," the petitioner added.
