Writ seeks info on public servants' assets

A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to the authorities concerned to collect returns of movable and immovable assets from public servants working in Bangladesh and aboard.
The information has to be submitted to the court in accordance with clause 13(1) (2) of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1979.
The petition also sought a directive for the respondents to immediately initiate efforts to disclose the movable and immovable
property held by government servants and their family members.
It also sought steps to arrange digital or electronic records and update time to time.
Subir Nandi Das, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the petition on Monday as public-interest litigation.
The petition has been place before the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain, according to the lawyer.
The bench may hear it today (Tuesday).
Mr Subir also sought a rule upon the government bodies concerned to explain as to why ghastly failure and purported inaction of the respondents to adopt a guideline or policy or to enact legislation to prevent accumulation of illegal wealth through corruption shall not be declared illegal.
Cabinet secretary, finance secretary, public administration secretary, BFID secretary, home secretary, law secretary, ACC chairman, NBR chairman, Bangladesh Bank governor and others have been made respondents in the petition.
According to the petition, some national and international dailies have raised issues of accumulation of wealth by public servants and their families, which is disproportionate with known sources of their income and a large sum of money laundered abroad by them in violation of laws.
