Zero Covid death for 20th straight day in BD

Bangladesh reported no death from coronavirus along with 26 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning.

With no new Covid-19 death reported for the 20th straight day, the total fatalities from the pandemic remained same at 29,127.

With the latest numbers released by directorate general of health services (DGHS), the overall caseload now stands at 1,952,855 and the entire infection rate was 13.92 per cent till Tuesday morning.

The DGHS statistics showed that the country reported only five Covid-19 linked deaths and 1,114 new cases while 14,100 patients recovered from the disease in April, 2022.

Among the five deaths during the period, two were unvaccinated patients while three were vaccinated with two doses of the vaccines.

The latest number of 26 new cases came from medical screening of a total of 7490 samples across the country through 879 labs and infection rate was 0.54 per cent, which was slightly up from Monday's 0.40 per cent.

During the same period of time, another 265 people recovered from the viral disease across the country taking the total recovery to 1,898,063.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.19 per cent and the mortality rate remains at 1.49 per cent.

Meanwhile UNB report adds: The overall number of Covid cases is now approaching 518 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 517,756,924 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,252,895 Tuesday morning.

The US has recorded 81,966,629 cases so far and 997,735 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,107,322 Sunday, with 1,921 new cases registered in 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, as many as 29 fatalities were reported across the country due to the pandemic since Sunday morning, taking the total death toll to 524,093.
