Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said Saturday coordinated steps need to be taken to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka city as it has become a 'national crisis,' reports UNB.
The minister said this while inspecting the traffic situation at Mogbazar intersection.
Noted columnist and journalist Syed Abul Moksud, BRTA high officials, Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation were present during the inspection.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said traffic congestion has become an everyday problem and the government is working to improve the situation.
Although it is not possible to ease traffic jam overnight, efforts are on to bring it down to a tolerable level ahead of the Eid, he added.
The minister said digging city roads will remain suspended during Ramadan and Eid as per a decision of an inter-ministerial meeting last week.
The construction work on the Mogbazar-Mouchak-Shantinagar flyover will remain suspended for a few days, Quader said adding that the two city corporations have been asked to make all the roads communicable.
He said coordinated steps will be taken to check traffic chaos on highways so that people can go to their home and return to the city without hassles before and after the Eid.
