Experts suggested Saturday to be proactive and to take proper care of bones from early ages to prevent bone weakening and injuries in the later stages of life, as according to a survey, three per cent population in Bangladesh have been suffering from Osteporesis disease, reports BSS.
"From the very early age everyone has to be very cautious and has to do physical exercise with proper diet to avoid the bone problem," suggested Prof M Nazrul Islam of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), keynote speaker of a press conference.
Bangladesh Rheumatology Society (BRS) organised the event at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium to mark the World Osteoporosis Day 2014 which falls on October 20 with the slogan 'Real men build their strength from within'.
"According to a report of International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), at least 0.38 million people have been suffering Osteoporosis, a bone disease in the country," said the speaker adding, ''at least one in five men and one women in three suffer a fracture due to osteoporosis in their remaining lifetimes."
National Prof Shahla Khatun was the chief guest of the programme while President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh Prof AK Azad Khan spoke among others with Chairman of Rheumatology Department of BSMMU Prof Syed Atiqul Haq in the chair.
