Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said in Dhaka Tuesday the government will soon appoint 10,000 more nurses to match up with the ratio of appointed doctors, reports BSS.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instruction to this end considering the contributions of nurses in providing health services," he said while inaugurating a fair on the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) premises as the chief guest marking the International Day of the Midwife (IDM).
May 5 is the internationally recognised day for highlighting the work of midwives. International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) established the idea of the 'International Day of the Midwife' following suggestions and discussion among Midwives Associations in the late 1980s, then launched the initiative formally in 1992.
Calling upon all to help the government, he said, "Please help the government as it is giving health services to the doorstep of poor people and reducing the mortality rate of mothers and children."
Talking about anarchy, Mohammad Nasim, who is also a Presidium member of the ruling Awami League (AL), said, "It will not be possible to topple the government by unleashing anarchy as the people gave mandate to the government through their votes."
The minister visited the stalls after inaugurating the fair by releasing balloons and pigeons.
Among others, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik, Director General (DG) of Directorate of Health Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Haque, registrar of Nursing Council Suraia Begum, were present on the occasion.
