CUMILLA, Feb 12 (BSS): Demonstrating remarkable determination and civic commitment, 110-year-old Hafizur Rahman cast his vote in the national election on Thursday morning at the Chawara Madrasa polling centre in Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila.
Despite his advanced age and physical frailty, Hafizur Rahman arrived at the polling station with the assistance of his relatives. Leaning on a stick and moving slowly due to weakness and age-related illness, he remained resolute in his decision to exercise his democratic right.
Family members said his mobility has been severely limited in recent years. However, his enthusiasm for participating in the election remained unwavering. "He insisted that he would vote," a relative said, adding that the family brought him to the centre fearing he would be deeply upset if he missed the opportunity.
Hafizur's presence drew attention from other voters and created a sense of inspiration among those present. Many paused to watch as the centenarian, supported by family members, made his way into the center to cast his ballot.
After voting, Hafizur Rahman expressed satisfaction at being able to fulfill his civic duty. "It is my right to vote. As long as I am alive, I want to continue to fulfill my responsibilities for the country," he said. "I feel good to vote for the candidate of my choice."
