Twelve judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court have been infected with Covid-19, reports UNB.

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique disclosed this when court proceedings started on Monday morning. Trial proceedings in many important benches have been suspended due to a surge in Covid cases, he added.

"If anyone of a double bench gets infected, the trial of that bench will remain suspended. In such case, if you do not cooperate, then it will be difficult for us to continue court proceedings. Otherwise, we will have to reintroduce virtual judicial proceedings," he said.

Amid a steady rise in Covid infections, Bangladesh reported two more Covid-linked deaths with 2,101 new cases in 24 hours until Monday morning, raising the country's death toll to 29,142 and caseload to 1,967,274, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
