12 kg gold bars seized at Shahjalal Airport

Customs Intelligence officials recovered 12 gold bars, weighing 12 kgs, from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Friday, reports UNB.

Tipped-off, a special team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate conducted a search operation inside the Shahjalal Air Cargo Unit of the airport and recovered the gold bars from an wooden box of electric fans around 2:30am, said Mainul Khan, director general of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.

However, none was arrested in this connection.

"An investigation is underway to find out the culprits," said Mainul.

The market value of the seized gold is Tk 60 million (Tk 6 crore).

A flight of Cathay Pacific Cargo, Hong Kong, that carried the wooden box landed at the airport on Thursday. Global International, Hong Kong, has sent the box to its consignee Zara International, Dhaka, he added.
