CHITTAGONG, Sept 21 : About 12 thousand subscribers of power living in Chittagong metropolitan area are being brought under pre-paid metering system by December this year, Power Development Board (PDB) sources said.
PDB has chalked out a pilot scheme for launching pre-paid metering system in the city by bringing above mentioned subscribers of Stadium and Khulshi power distribution areas under the scheme at the initial stage.
With a view to ensuring austerity in power consumption and avoiding average billing, PDB launched pre-paid meters in different zones of the country one year back.
Similar scheme was also undertaken in Chittagong earlier but its implementation was delayed due to various complications, PDB sources said.
Meanwhile, PDB has procured 12 thousand pre-paid meters and preserved those.
The subscribers would be relieved from unnecessary harassment with the launching of pre-paid metering system, PDB sources said.
C'WASA land recovered
About 19.60 acres of Chittagong WASA land (1186 kathas) worth Tk.500 million, lying on the bank of Bay of Bengal in middle Halishahar area in the port city were recovered from unauthorised occupation.
Chittagong Port Magistrate Mohammed Munir Chowdhury conducted the drive recently.
According to sources, C'WASA acquired the land during Pakistan regime in the year 1963 for sewerage project. But the land went under unauthorised occupation gradually.
Unauthorised occupants constructed commercial establishments over the grabbed site.
