Around 128 teachers of six universities have opposed the government's move to lease offshore gas blocks to multinational oil companies, saying that such steps will be suicidal for the country.
In a joint statement Saturday, the teachers said the government is trying to lease important gas blocks by coming October although a case is still pending with a court challenging government's steps to lease gas blocks.
They said the caretaker government has no right to lease the gas blocks to international companies because all natural resources belong to the people of the country. The responsibility of a caretaker government is to organise parliament elections but it has been trying to lease gas blocks to oil companies ignoring the interest of the country, they added.
