FE REPORT | March 01, 2023 00:00:00

The Dhaka Bus Owners Association (DBOA) is set to introduce electronic ticketing system for 13 more bus companies, operating in and around the Dhaka city, from today (Wednesday) to bring discipline in the system and ensure fare ticket collection.

With this, 59 of 97 companies will be brought under the e-ticketing system.

DBOA General Secretary Khandaker Enayet Ullah disclosed these in a press conference at the association's office on Tuesday.

The 13 companies are Akash Enterprise and Victor Classic Bus Malik Samity on Sadarghat-Dhour route, Number-Six Motijheel-Banani Transport on Kamlapur-Notunbazar route, Green Onabil Paribahan and Onabil Super Ltd on Signboard-Gazipur route, Great Turag Transport Company Ltd on Jatrabari-Tongi Station Road route, Raida Enterprise Limited on Postogola-Abdullahpur route, Asmani Paribahan on Madanpur-Abdullahpur route, Somoy Transport on Gulistan-Kanchpur route, Boishakhi Paribahan and Rois Paribahan on Savar-Notunbazar route, Airport-Bangabandhu Avenue Minibus Owners Association on Kadamtoli-Abdullahpur route, and Monjil Express on Kanchpur-Dhour route.

He also said 987 buses under these companies will use electronic ticket machines (ETMs) to issue e-tickets.

The DBOA announced to introduce the e-ticketing system for 1,643 buses of 30 companies on November 13 last year, and 717 buses of 16 other companies on January 10. From Wednesday, the total number of buses will be 3,307.

Admitting that many bus operators still do not use ETMs as well as seek extra fares from commuters, the DBOA general secretary said the association has increased its manpower to intensify invigilation, so that these kinds of incidents reduce.

"This is very hard job. But our teams, comprising transport owners, are regularly doing duty on roads," he told journalists, admitting that the (present critical) situation is the result of various irregularities, persisting for a long time in the city bus service.

Enayet Ullah, who is the owner of Ena Paribahan, said the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and DBOA have already identified 46 bus stoppages to fix fare charts according to accurate mileage.

The fare charts will be prepared within a week, and the DBOA will work to keep mileage in the device for stopping hassle between passengers and bus helpers.

The DBOA general secretary claimed that way-bill system has almost been withdrawn from the city bus services.

Answering to a question, the ruling party-backed transport leader said the association survey has found 5,650 buses under 97 companies are now operating in Dhaka and its surrounding areas.
