13 villages submerged in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, Oct 1 (BSS): Thirteen villages of Pratapnagar union under Asasani Upazila in the district were submerged as the embankment of the Water Development Board broke at three points.
The water of the Kabodak river swallowed the areas through the breaches developed in the embankment at Nakna, Chakla and Harishkhali points.
The project implementation officer of Asasuni Sirajul Islam Mollah told BSS that about 1,500 shrimp enclosures were washed away and aman crops of about 700 acres of land have gone under water.
He said at least 15,000 people of Pratapnagar union were marooned by water.
People have been working to repair the breaches of the embankment.
