140 policemen to join UN peacekeeping mission

A 140-member contingent of the Bangladesh police will join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in East Timor, reports UNB.
Of them, the first group of 70 policemen, led by Police Super Tanvir Haider Chowdhury, reached East Timor Friday night by a chartered plane of United Nations while another group of 70 will leave Dhaka tonight, said a police headquarters release.
Deputy IGP (R&T) M Mokhlesur Rahman, AIGP (UN Desk) M Ekramul Habib and other police officials will see the East Timor-bound team off at the Zia International Airport.
Some 1,083 police members are working in UN peacekeeping missions in East Timor, Kosovo, Congo, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Darfur and Sudan.s
