150 injured in clash between villagers in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Dec 13 (BSS): At least 150 people, including journalists and police, were injured in a clash between villagers at Gobindapur Bazar under Chhatak upazila in the district this evening.
Police said traffic movement on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway remained stopped for about three hours during the clash that began over the payment of autorickshaw fair.
They said a dispute between the people of Takipur village and Digali village under Gobindaganj union in the upazila has been continuing for a long time over establishing supremacy in the locality.
Police said Jamaluddin, a London expatriate and a resident of Takipur, locked in an altercation with Mazam Ali, a CNG-run autorickshaw driver and a resident of Digali village, over the payment of fair.
At one stage of the altercation, people of the two villages engaged in the fierce clash, police said.
Getting information, police and RAB rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control firing teargas. They also arrested 20 persons in this connection.
Admitting the incident, Police Super of Sunamganj Shafiqul Islam said the clash ensued over a trifling matter.
