18 personalities awarded

Save the Rural Development (SARDA) Saturday awarded 18 personalities for their contribution in reducing tobacco use in the country.
They received awards in a ceremony at the conference room of the Dhaka University (DU) Senate Bhaban in the morning.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, joint secretary Zillur Rahman, deputy secretary Nasir Hossain and Amitav Sarkar, journalist Abdul Hai Siddiqi, Mahbuba Bilkis, M Kamruzzaman among others received crests in the function.
Addressing the occasion, Prof Arefin Siddique said he would try his best to free the Dhaka University campus from smoking. "The students who have the habit of smoking should try to give up it as it is destructive for all," he said.
He stressed the need for making awareness about the destructive effects of tobacco on human body.
SARDA executive director Arifur Rahman Murad presided over the award giving ceremony.
