20 passengers went missing after boat capsized in Brahmaputra

JAMALPUR, Sept 4 (UNB): At least 20 passengers went missing after a boat capsized in Brahmaputra River near Melandah Upazila Tuesday morning.
Locals said the mechanised boat sailed for Shyampur with around 100 passengers from Kazaihata in Melandah and sank in the river at about 11:00 am due to bad weather.
All but 20 of the passengers swam ashore. Local people salvaged the sunken boat but could not trace the missing people until filing of the report at about 2:00 pm.
The search for the missing people was on but it was being hampered due to huge waves.
Another report from Khulna adds: Bodies of three people, went missing since Sunday evening after they jumped in Shibsha River from a launch, were recovered Monday night.
Two of the deceased were identified as Rafiq Gazi (22) of Bagali village of Koira Upazila and Nuru Sarder (50) of Shyemnagar Upazila in Satkhira district.
