26 more Indian fishermen held

BAGERHAT, Nov 21 (UNB): Members of Bangladesh Navy in a drive detained 26 more Indian fishermen at the Fairway Buoy point in the Bay of Bengal under Mongla upazila on Friday for trespassing into the Bangladesh waters.

Sub-inspector of Mongla Police Station M Manjur Elahi said the Navy members has detained the Indian fishermen while netting fish in the area aboard two trawlers - 'FV Bashonti-1' and 'FV Banshonti-2'.

However, the detained fishermen claimed they mistakenly entered the Bangladesh territory.

Bangladesh Navy has detained 130 Indian fishermen from the sea along with 10 fishing trawlers in eight drives in the Bay of Bengal from October 15 till Friday.

Bangladesh Navy has already handed over 104 of the detained to the Mongla Police Station.

Later, the 104 detained fishermen have been shown arrested in cases filed over trespassing into the country's marine territory and sent to Bagerhat jail by the order of district courts.
