CHITTAGONG, July 10: A large number of people on Friday thronged the Chittagong railway station to buy advance train tickets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims.
There were long queues of ticket aspirants in front of every booking counter in the new railway station from early morning to evening.
The aspirants are, however, happy as they have finally got tickets for July 14 even after they had waited in queues for several hours.
The railway authority has been selling advance tickets from July 9 for Dhaka-bound Mohanagar Probhati, Subarno Express, Mohanagar Godhuli, Turna Nishitha and Chattala Express, Sylhet-bound Paharika Express and Udayan Express, Mymensingh-bound Bijoy Express and Chandpur-bound Meghna Express.
Some passengers have alleged that booking clerks in the counters have used delaying tactics, causing immense sufferings to ticket buyers.
Station Manager Abul Kalam Azad said advance tickets were sold from eight counters of the station from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. They saw a huge rush of aspirants today, but most of them have got tickets, he said. Some 4,291 tickets were on sale for the second day.
