2nd edition of Dhaka Art Summit ends

The 2nd edition of Dhaka Art Summit (DAS) concluded in the city Sunday, ushering in a new era of South Asian contemporary art, reports UNB.

As was envisaged by the organisers, the three-day art summit at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from February 7-9 turned into a large South Asian contemporary art festival, allowing art lovers from all over the globe to learn about the art practices rooted in this region.

The Summit presented 14 solo art projects by internationally acclaimed and established artists from the region, most of which are supported by Samdani Art Foundation.

It stimulated a panoramic survey of artists from South Asian countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Summit also generated a series of discussions among various collectors, curators and art professionals, allowing them to share their perspectives on collecting, innovation, institution building for the consolidation of a unique space for South Asian art.

Another feature of the Dhaka Art Summit was the exhibition of 10-shortlisted artists for the Sadmani Art Award.

Leading printmaking studio in the country, Cosmos Atelier-71 Printmaking Studio, also put on display some of the best studio prints at the event.

Chairman of Gallery Cosmos Enayetullah Khan congratulated the organisers on going global with the 2nd edition of the Dhaka Art Summit, following the edition which mainly focused on artists from Bangladesh.
