3 drown as overloaded boat sinks in Meghna

NARSINGDI, Jan 17 (UNB/BSS): Three people, including a minor girl, drowned as an overloaded boat capsized in the Meghna River near Bipin Shah Ghat in Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Morsheda Begum (37), her daughter Suborna Begum (7) and Sufia Begum (53), residents of Char Digholdi village in the upazila.

Quoting witnesses, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station KM Abul Kashem said the boat carrying over 40 passengers sank in the river around 2:45 pm while it was heading towards Char-Digholdi village from Bipin Shah Ghat, leaving the two women and the minor girl missing.
