The Department of Shipping (DoS) has suspended the route permits of marine vessels 'Parabat-9' and 'Sundarban-8 Tuesday following the death of three people in a head-on collision between the two launches in the Meghna River in Mohona area, reports UNB.
In this connection, an order had already been issued by the DoS, senior public relations officer of Shipping Ministry Jahangir Alam told the news agency Tuesday.
Three members of a family were killed when the Barisal-bound 'Parabat-9' collided with 'Sundarban-8' due to dense fog in the area around 1:30 am, leaving Shakil, a six-year-old boy, dead on the spot and nine others injured, additional superintendent of Chandpur police Qamrul Islam said.
The deceased were identified as Sahana Begum (60) and her grandson Shakil (6) and Rupa (30).
They used to live in the city's Lalbagh area.
Five of the injured were identified as Suraiya (28), Rabbi (11), Sheuly (35), Dalia (38) and Monwara (50) while the identity of the rest two could not be known immediately.
Later, Sahana died on way to Dhaka.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Combined Medical Hospital where Rupa succumbed to her injures about 8:30 am.
The dead and the injured were travelling by 'Sundarban-8' launch.
Abdul Qaiyum, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Model thana, confirmed the death of Rupa.
