CHATTOGRAM, July 07: The Proctorial Body of the University of Chittagong (CU) detained 30 individuals in a day-long raid on the campus on Saturday and recovered a large quantity of cannabis from their possession.
Of the detained, eight are students of the CU, one student of Dhaka University student and the rest are outsiders.
Liton Mitra, assistant proctor of the CU, confirmed the matter and said, "We regularly conduct raids to maintain the law and order on the campus. Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a raid from morning till evening in different places of the campus including the biological pond bank, shops near the Sociology Department, open stage, botanical pond bank, central field and Atish Dipankar Hall and we detained 30 individuals and recovered huge quantity of cannabis from their possession. We also seized about 30 motorcycles from their possession."
"Of the detained, one is a Dhaka University student, eight CU students and the others are outsiders. Disciplinary action will be taken against the CU students from whom cannabis was recovered. Police will take action against the outsiders," he added.
