3.5kg gold seized at Dhaka airport, 2 held

In separate incidents, customs officials seized 31 gold bars weighing some 3.5 kg and arrested two people at Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Monday, report agencies.
The prices of the seized gold worked out at about Tk 16 million.  The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Ozayer, hailing from Faridganj Upazila of Chandpur district, and Shafiqul Islam, 39, of Homna in Comilla district.
Assistant director of Customs Intelligence Directorate Umme Nahida Akter said customs officials challenged Shafiqul while he was leaving the airport through the green channel at about 12:15 pm.  They recovered seven gold bars, each of 70 grams, searching his body, she said.
Shafiqul arrived in Dhaka from Kuala Lumpur by a Malaysian Airlines flight that landed at the airport around 11:30am.
