3rd Karnaphuli Bridge opens to traffic in October

CHITTAGONG, July 24 (BSS) : As the work for the long-cherished 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge is progressing fast with the target for opening it to traffic in the middle of October next, the concrete floor of the structure gets a real shape with final stitching to be given Sunday.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain will attend the closure stitching programme as the chief guest and inaugurate the work for giving final shape to the concrete floor of the bridge.
The minister along with senior officials of the Communications Ministry will witness the progress of the 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge project and give necessary directives to expedite the work so that the bridge could be ready for traffic within the stipulated time.
"Closing the stitching of casting of the giant bridge virtually indicates the ending of the major work of the project," Project Director of the 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmad said Friday.
He said the bridge is expected to be fully ready for vehicular movement at the end of September next and to be inaugurated formally in the middle of October after completion of some finishing works, including construction of railings, dividers, footpaths, wiring coast and light posts.
