42,500 youths to get govt jobs under NSP this year

Some 42,500 educated youths will get government jobs this year under the National Service Programme (NSP) of the government, officials said.  

The NSP will be implemented in 17 upazilas of 17 districts at a cost of Tk 2.42 billion for the current fiscal year (FY), 2014-15.

The upazilas that will come under the NSP this year are Mehendiganj of Barisal, Dewanganj of Jamalpur, Kaukhali of Pirojpur, Sherpur Sadar, Nalchhiti of Jhalokathi, Goalanda of Rajbari, Chowhali of Sirajganj, Singra of Natore, Monohorganj of Comilla, Gosairhat of Shariatpur, Nandail of Mymensingh, Haimchar of Chandpur, Shyamnagar of Satkhira, Mohammadpur of Magura, Chitalmari of Bagerhat, Thanchi of Bandarban and Terokhada of Khulna.  

Youths having passed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations and aged between 24 and 35 years will get the jobs.

The ministry of youth and sports (MoYS) is now scrutinising the applications submitted by the youths having the criteria mentioned above.   

"We have received applications from the youths who have passed HSC exams and are aged 24-35 years," a joint secretary of the MoYS involved with the programme told the FE.

"After the selection, the youths will receive three months' training. During the training period they will get Tk 3,000 each per month," the official said.

He said after the training they (youths) will join government offices at their respective upazilas. They will get Tk 6,0000 each as monthly salary.   

The NSP is being implemented through phases. The third phase is now going on.

The first phase of NSP was introduced in 2010 in Barguna, Gopalganj and Kurigram. A total of 56,600 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) passed youths had served different government offices in their respective upazilas.

The second phase of NSP was implemented in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagaon.

A total of 14,467 HSC passed youths had served different government offices in their respective upazilas.
