48th DU convocation today

The 48th convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held today (Monday) at  central playground on the university campus, reports UNB.
Prof Rolf Heuer, Director General of European Organisation for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, will deliver his speech as the Convocation Speaker with President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, in the chair.
The CERN DG will also be conferred Doctor of Science degree at the convocation.
Graduates attaining degrees from March in 2014 will attend the convocation.
Around 38 PhD researchers and about 25 Mphil researchers and 34 MD-MS would be conferred degrees at the convocation. A total of 33 students will also receive gold medals for their outstanding results.
A total of 8,312 students -- 4,015 male and 4,297 female--will attain their graduation certificates at the convocation.
The gate will open 9:30am to enter the convocation while President Abdul Hamid will arrive at 11:55am and the convocation will formally begin at 12:00 noon.
Cabinet members, MPs and diplomats, among others, will attend the convocation.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique told the news agency that they have already completed all preparations to make the convocation a success.
