5 DU students get scholarship

A total of five meritorious students of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received "Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Scholarships" for their outstanding academic results in BSS Honours final examination of 2013. Besides, journalist Nurjahan Begum has been given 'Editor Abdus Salam Trust Fund Lifetime Achievement Award' for her great contribution to the profession of journalism.

 Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed the scholarships among the students at a function held on Sunday at Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university. The Department of Mass Communication & Journalism organised the programme.

DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism Prof Akhtar Sultana addressed it as special guest.

Besides, journalist Kamal Lohani delivered the "Editor Abdus Salam Memorial Lecture." Prof Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam gave vote of thanks. Associate Professor Robaet Ferdous conducted the programme. Family members of late journalists Abdus Salam and A B M Musa were also present on the occasion.

Renowned journalist late A B M Musa had donated money to DU authorities for setting up 'Editor Abdus Salam Trust Fund' at the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism in memory of his father-in-law.
