The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case on Monday against five officials of Sadharan Bima Corporation, including a former general manager (GM) for allegedly embezzling nearly Tk 3.8 million.
"ACC assistant director M Fazlul Haque filed the case with Motijheel Police Station in the capital," ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the FE.
The case was filed against former Sadharan Bima GM Bidhuvushan Chakrawarty, its manager Mohammad Ibrahim, manager (establishment) AFM Shahjalal, manager (audit) M Shahinuzzman and deputy manager Abdul Quader Shikder.
According to the first information report (FIR), the accused in connivance with one another swindled nearly Tk 3.8 million by preparing fake money receipts and marine certificates against eight cheques of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), which were issued against 13 bills of Sadharan Bima Corporation, the only state-owned general insurance corporation.
They plundered the money from the corporation's zonal office at Motijheel in Dhaka during April 18, 2011 to January 15, 2012, according to the FIR.
