50 injured in Gopalganj clash, 21 held

GOPALGANJ, Oct 11 (UNB): At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over setting up a new market at Majra village in Kashiani upazila on Saturday.
Officer-in-charge of Kashiani police station M Monir Hossain said Jalal Mollah, a jute trader of Majra Purbapara village, set up a new bazar beside Majrapara Government Primary School some days back.
Faeykuzzaman Sheikh, a ward-7 member of Sajail Union, had been opposing setting up of bazar in the area.
The clash ensued when supporters of Jalal Mollah beat up a follower of Faeykhujamman on Friday evening.
As a sequel to Friday's incident, both groups equipped with home made weapons attacked each other, triggering a clash that left 50 people injured from both sides.
All shops of the new bazar and 40 houses of the area were vandalised during the clash.
