50th Independence Day of Malta celebrated in city

Honorary Consul of Malta M Shoeb Chowdhury and his spouse cutting a cake marking the golden jubilee of the independence of the Republic of Malta in the city. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was present, among others.

The Honorary Consulate of Malta in Dhaka has celebrated the 50th anniversary of the country's independence. On the occasion, the Honorary Consul of Malta M Shoeb Chowdhury and his spouse hosted a reception at a city hotel Friday, says a press release.
Ministers, parliament members, politicians, businessmen, media representatives, academicians, high government officials and members of the diplomatic corps attended the function.
Consul M Shoeb Chowdhury in his speech referred to the excellent relations that exist between Malta and Bangladesh and conveyed the greetings of President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat of Malta to all the guests present at the celebration.
Mr Chowdhury invited all guests to visit Valletta as it prepares itself to become the European cultural capital in 2018.
At the end of the consul's address, the national anthems of both Bangladesh and Malta were played.
The celebration came to an end when the Mr and Mrs Chowdhury cut a cake along with Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Dean of Diplomat Corps Shaher Mohammad, President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce Industries Annisul Huq and former Information secretary and Founder Chairman of BTRC Syed Marghub Murshed.
The cake was decorated in the Maltese national flag and it was marked with the symbol of golden jubilee of Malta.
