53,180 Bangladeshi pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia for hajj

4,562 will perform hajj under govt management and 80,695 under private arrangement

A total of 53,180 hajj pilgrims have reached Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh until early Saturday (2:00 am) for performing holy hajj this year (2024).

Of them, 3,747 people went to perform hajj under government management while 49,433 went under private arrangement.

So far a total of 136 hajj flights have carried pilgrims from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia.

The holy hajj is expected to be held on June 16 subject to moon sighting.

Hajj flights started carrying pilgrims from Bangladesh on May 9 and will continue to do that until June 10.

Return hajj flights will start on June 20 and will continue until July 22.

Meanwhile, visas have been issued to all hajj pilgrims by the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka.

A total of 85,257 pilgrims from Bangladesh will perform the holy hajj this year.

Of them, 4,562 pilgrims will perform hajj under government management and 80,695 under private arrangement.

A total of eight Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims (all males) have died in Saudi Arabia until Saturday.

Of them, six died in Makka and two in Madina, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Hajj Portal Bulletin.

Meanwhile, the government has taken measures to fulfill the hajj quota target next year as the number of registered hajj pilgrims this year is much lower compared to the number of allotted quota.

Bangladesh got a hajj quota for 1,27,198 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia this year. Of the quota, 10,198 and 1,17,000 hajj pilgrims could perform the holy hajj under government and non-government arrangements respectively.

This year a total of 85,117 people registered for performing hajj under government and private management.

Of the total, hajj pilgrims under government management are 4,422 (4,323 hajj pilgrims + 99 - guide) while under private management they are 80,695 (78,895 hajj pilgrims + 1800- guide).

Islami Foundation Bangladesh which is under the ministry of religious affairs will motivate imams across the country through arranging training programmes to motivate people to perform the holy hajj next year.
